SPECIAL PROGRAMS AT PPC
Special Programs
At PPC we are committed to wellness. While we understand the need to diagnose and treat illness, our primary goals are to maintain good health through diet, exercise, and lifestyle. To that end, we provide our patients and their families with many means of understanding the true roots of good health and of pursing those goals. Dr. Lazris will be giving talks regularly, and those can be found on this link. We also offer the following in our office and facilities:
PPC Nutrition
At PPC we value good nutrition as the primary ingredient necessary for good health. Many people think that once you get older it matters less what you eat. In fact, the opposite is true. Eating well leads to more energy, a nimbler brain, fewer falls, and the best treatment for most chronic illness. Supplements typically don’t work as well as food, and the idea of “food as medicine” is one we embrace. Nothing helps an aging body more than a good diet.

Dr. Lazris is a certified nutrition educator who has delved into nutritional treatment for disease and wellness for most of his career. He and the PPC team will help you to understand the benefit of good nutrition and just how easy and tasty it is to eat well!

PPC is partnered through membership with two local organic farms and a local restaurant.
-
Gorman Farms: We are part of the farm’s CSA program and receive an assortment of organic and locally grown vegetable and fruit every week. These will be featured in many of our recipes, and any of our patients who signs up for the PPC Nutrition Education Program (PNEP) will have access to this produce when available.
-
Mary’s Land Farm: This farm offers weekly cooking classes, organic vegetables, educational dinners and talks, and the best grass-fed and pasture-raised beef and chicken around. Our patient who sign up for the PPC Nutrition Education Program will be able to partake in the cooking classes, educational programs, and discounts offered by the farm.
-
Georgia Grace Cafe: Known for its delicious and healthy fare, Georgia Grace on Main Street in Ellicott City has been working with PPC for many years. As part of our nutrition program, we will be raffling off gift certificates for this wonderful restaurant.

We will be offering monthly nutritional lectures and lots of free perks for those who sign up for our PNEP nutritional program, available to the community as well. Email Erica to sign up!
We have monthly nutritional advice and recipes in our newsletter and archive all recipes here.
We will be expanding our nutritional video series in the next few months.

Wound Care
Most of us at PPC are working toward official wound care certification, but all of us are already skilled and adept at treating wounds. This is a tremendous problem with our long-term care patients especially, and we seek to directly assist nurses and other staff to both prevent and treat wounds.

Dr. Lazris is certified as a wound care specialist with a CWSP degree through the the American Board of Wound Management
Palliative Care
Our PPC Palliative Care Program is certified by CHAP, the national leader in palliative accreditation, and many of our NP's are working toward palliative certification. Dr. Lazris is a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) and has written numerous articles and books about the palliative care model. His book Curing Medicare (Cornell University Press) helps to show why palliative care is the equivalent of good care. We have both a video and page that describe the palliative model of care.
